It is the season when our gardens are at their most beautiful: the flowering plants, the freshly budding branches. In spring, nature goes through an explosion of awakening, and never before has the desire grown to purchase new plants and flowers, to enrich our green space with unusual and increasingly beautiful varieties.
In Tuscany, the floricultural tradition is very rich, and even Versilia boasts a wide and varied choice of nurseries, with excellent quality products and competent and passionate professionals. Going to exhibitions and markets dedicated to gardening offers a pinch of extra fun, as well as the chance to make new discoveries and learn about new trends in flower and plant care.

Again, the choice is wide in our region, but a roundup of the events dedicated to gardening in this early spring can only start in Lucca, one of the greenest cities in Italy. Near the Botanical Garden, an institution founded over two centuries ago, on the magnificent and imposing city walls, two events dedicated to gardens and plants take place every year, Verdemura and Murabilia, both among the best known and most appreciated.
Verdemura is the spring event and this year it will take place from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 April. Between the Baluardi San Regolo and La Libertà, over 170 Italian and foreign exhibitors will offer plants and horticultural species, shrubs, bulbs, tools and furnishings for the garden and vegetable garden, and excellent handicraft products. For this 16th edition, the narcissus, emblem of spring both in the garden and in nature, has been chosen as the symbol flower.
Murabilia is held on the first weekend in September. In addition to the many selected exhibitors, it offers a rich programme of meetings on everything revolving around gardens and plants.

On 5 and 6 April, plants will also be in the limelight in Florence, with the Flower Show, a market exhibition of rare and unusual plants, which will be held in the beautiful Giardino Corsini, at Via della Scala 115. There will be many free side activities for adults and children, with gardening courses, creative demonstrations and educational workshops: from grafting techniques to the use of roses in cooking, from the properties of aromatic plants to bonsai techniques.

From Friday 11 to Sunday 13 April 2025 the historical centre of Pisa presents Verde Pisa. Here you can find everything from seeds to large tree specimens, from young plants to cut flowers. Also on display are cultivation equipment and technologies and numerous exhibitions. The event is divided into different sections and offers the opportunity to discover or rediscover the city’s most picturesque corners.
Founded in 1854, the Società Toscana Orticoltura (Tuscan Horticultural Society) organises several events in the capital. One of the most eagerly awaited is the “Mostra primaverile di piante e fiori” that takes place from 25 April to 1 May in the Giardino dell’Orticoltura in Florence, with its splendid lemon house. Exhibitors include the Region’s best floriculturists. There is a rich programme of side events with educational workshops, talks and book presentations, artistic performances, botanical walks and botanical illustration workshops for adults.
A park all to yourself
For those who love greenery and plants, the greatest desire is to have their own garden, to be loved and cared for. All the villas proposed by The Dream Real Estate are surrounded by splendid gardens, but among the many we would like to point out two properties literally immersed in nature.
The first is less than a kilometre from the centre of Pietrasanta and is a beautiful villa built in the 1990s in the style of the most elegant Tuscan farmhouses. It is located in
the centre of a 24,000-square-metre lot, perfectly maintained and rich in trees, hedges and plants. The large, comfortable outdoor spaces allow you to enjoy constant contact with nature.

Tenuta Le Volte is immersed in the green Tuscan hills, just 9 km from the enchanting medieval town of San Gimignano. The spacious property is surrounded by over 73 hectares of greenery, with 2.5 hectares of Chianti Classico vineyards and an olive grove of over 20 hectares. The garden, with its manicured lawn, hedges and typical essences of the local landscape, is enriched by precious plants in terracotta pots.
